Meizu Has Announced The Pro 6 Plus, Its Latest High-End Smartphone

Meizu Pro 6 Plus Smartphones have been unveiled at an event in China. While the Meizu Pro 6 Plus will cost CNY 3,000 The smartphones will go on sale on December 23. The phone resembles the Pro 6 and the MX6, along with a 7.3mm thick metal body, a central camera lens on the rear, a fingerprint sensor in the home button; but much of the internal technology comes from Samsung.

Bigger than both the Pro 6 and 6s, the new Meizu Pro 6 Plus is like a Galaxy S7 “plus” that Samsung never gave us. Meizu is crafted a metal body and filled it with 5.7 inches of the flat Super AMOLED goodness – complete with QHD resolution (1,440 x 2,560p) and Always On functionality. It aims for 430nits of the brightness and is pressure sensitive (Meizu calls it 3D Press) to boot! It also has always-on tech, showing the battery level, time, date and various notifications when the device is in sleep mode.

Samsung has also supplied Meizu with the processor. It is the Exynos 8890 inside, which is the equivalent to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 and has previously been used in the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy Note 7, as an alternative to Qualcomm’s chip. Here it runs at up to 2.6GHz and also has 4GB of high-speed RAM to help out, and a massive 128GB of internal storage.

Other Pro 6 Plus features include a fingerprint sensor that doubles as a heart rate monitor, a fast-charging 3,400mAh battery, a 32-bit audio DAC, a USB Type-C connection, and a blue-light minimizing mode for using the phone at the night. The Flyme 6 user interface has an all-new look, and a special ‘3D Press’ feature, just like Apple’s 3D Touch on the iPhone, but likely only for the Meizu’s own apps. It is not clear whether Flyme 6 is still built around Android 6.0, like Flyme 5, or if it is based on the Android 7.0 Nougat.

The rear camera has 12-megapixels and is a Sony IMX386 sensor with optical image stabilization, laser autofocus and an f/2.0 aperture, plus an LED flash unit. On the front is a 5-megapixel selfie cam with the same size aperture. The setup appears to be almost identical to the MX6, aside from the inclusion of the OIS, but Meizu notes it has upgraded the Samsung image processor for improved detail.

The Meizu Pro 6 Plus will come in silver, grey, or gold, but the price and exact release date has yet to be confirmed. Like all Meizu phones, it will be sold in China, with various other countries around the world.
